Louis Kalin Obituary, Death – Dedicated members of our community have passed away, according to the Slovenian Canadian Association of Edmonton, which announced the news this morning. The 18th of January saw the passing of Louis (Lucian) Kalin. On Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the age of 92 years, our dear husband, father, and grandfather, Louis Kalin, passed away. It is with a great deal of sadness and a great deal of love that we say farewell to him.
The memory of Louis will live on in the hearts of his devoted wife of 64 years, Valerie; his children, Walter and Miriam; his grandsons, Kevin, Brendan, Sheldon, and Justin; and a large number of other family and friends. One of his siblings, Marta, as well as both of his parents, Albert and Maria, passed away before him. Louis was born in Cesta, which is located in Ajdovščina, Slovenia. In 1952, he made the journey toward Canada. Even though he had been living in Canada for a number of years, he went back to Slovenia to marry Valerie.
Shortly after that, in October of 1960, the couple started their life together in Canada, specifically in Edmonton. Until the very end of his life, Louis led a full life and was, above all else, a devoted father and grandfather. He always went out of his way to make sure that his children and grandchildren had a wonderful time, and he cherished the time he spent with them. Through his children and grandkids, Louis instilled in them the strong qualities of kindness, perseverance, and hard work. Until the day he became 68 years old, Louis was employed in the fields of heavy-duty mechanics and electricians.
Everyone adored him, and he was always prepared to lend a helping hand and provide guidance to his friends and neighbors.
On January 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., there will be a Funeral Liturgy held at the Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home, which is located at 10011 114 St NW in Edmonton, Alberta. Friends and family are cordially welcome to attend. For their care and compassion, the family would like to extend a special thank you to the personnel of the Emergency Department and Emergency Medical Services at the University of Alberta Hospital. Additionally, the family would like to express their gratitude to the friends and neighbors who reached out to them during this trying time. You are welcome to make a memorial contribution to a charity of your choosing in place of sending flowers in Louis’s presence.
